The Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) is the independent body responsible for overseeing the liberalisation of Ireland's energy sector.
Arekibo were commissioned to redevelop the Commission for Energy Regulations Internet site. The brief was to create a public website that clearly communicated the role and work of the commission. The site would be the primary medium by which the general public and interested parties could quickly learn about the work of the Commission and would also need to be internally managed by a group of site managers.
To begin the project Arekibo met with the individual project teams within CER to understand what their aims and objectives for the new sites were. This involved a series of workshops where Arekibo met with the majority of employees of both organisations. The end result of this consultation was the development of an information architecture that would be the blueprint for the presentation of information online.
Arekibo created a new online brand for the organisation and developed the site upon the Arekibo IMS, which enables the CER team to manage all of the content and services available on their new site. Arekibo also developed a Consultations area on the site where the Commission can advertise and manage their public consultation process from consultation to decision to actual policy.
The site was launched in January 2007 and has received fantastic feedback from both the industry and site users.
Arekibo subsequently launched a site for the All Island Project (AIP), which is a joint initiative run by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) & the Northern Ireland Authority for Utility Regulation (NIAUR). This site is also developed upon the Arekibo IMS and Arekibo worked closely with AIP to plan, design and develop this online service
“The CER website is much more than just simply an information or a marketing website. For us, it is really a living site and it is an absolutely crucial part of the CER’s business.
As the organisation charged with developing the energy sector in Ireland, in the interests of customers, it is critical that we have a user friendly site through which we can communicate easily with our stakeholders and customers. We publish around 300 separate documents each year, many of which are important public consultations. To be able to carry out our business effectively we needed a website that could handle a significant volume of traffic, was easy to update from our side, was simple and clear to navigate and could contain a very large volume of information. We feel we have achieved that with our new website.
With the help of assistance of Arekibo, our website now offers a new and high quality service to all our stakeholders. It is an invaluable part of our corporate strategy and we feel that its design complements our status as a young, energetic and dynamic organisation committed to drive change in the energy sector in Ireland.”
