The Employment Appeals Tribunal (EAT) is an independent body bound to act judicially and was set up to provide a speedy, fair, inexpensive and informal means for individuals to seek remedies for alleged infringements of their statutory rights.
Arekibo were commissioned to develop a new internet presence for the EAT. The site needed to clearly explain the role of the Tribunal, and present information to members of the public wishing to find out more about the processes involved in making an appeal to the Tribunal. The site had to also support the Tribunal staff by ensuring that information to help the public was easily accessible to help reduce the amount of phone calls received on a daily basis.
To begin with Arekibo reviewed how the Tribunal operated internally and how they interact and delivered information to the public. The sites information architecture was developed with the public user in mind and research was also conducted to ascertain their requirements. The Tribunal also required two private member areas which would provide enhanced information and services to two separate user groups.
Arekibo created a new online brand for the Tribunal and built the site and extranets upon the Arekibo IMS that enables the team in the EAT to fully update all aspects of the public and private sites.
Subsequent to the launch of the site, Arekibo have created a number of additional services that are publically and privately accessed and have greatly enhanced the services that the Tribunal provides online. In particular Arekibo have created a Determinations module that will enable the public to search a database of Tribunal Claim Determinations. This service will be launched at the end of 2007.
“As Minister with responsibility for Labour Affairs, I am very conscious of the need to improve information to all clients who avail of the State’s employment rights institutions. This new website will provide a step-by-step guide to the Tribunal’s client base, claimants and companies, their representatives, practitioners in employment law, the legal profession as well as for the general public.”
Minister Killeen Minister for Labour Affairs
"I am pleased to recommend Arekibo to you. In particular, I would like to thank the team for all their patience in listening to us while we – sometimes - spoke to ourselves! Arekibo’s delivery of an easily managed website has greatly enhanced the profile of the Tribunal, in that it has received many favorable comments on the availability of information in the complex area of employment rights. Throughout the process of creation and development I found the Arekibo team were highly committed, dedicated and interested in the project, as well as supremely confident in their ability to meet our objectives and deadlines. The real winners, however are all those who require assistance in the area of employment rights. The development and delivery of a website that now meets the needs to the Tribunals’ multi-faceted client base is a sufficient testimonial in itself"
Dominic McBride – Secretary of the Tribunal
“This is a great day for the Tribunal as the ‘EAT Goes Live’ and launches its official website. This is just the first step toward providing an online service for the lodgement of claims and appeals. On behalf of the Tribunal I would like, therefore, to congratulate and thank Arekibo Communications for their commitment, dedication and professional approach in bringing this important first stage of the project to a successful conclusion”.
Ms. Kate T. O’Mahony, Chairman of the Employment Appeals Tribunal
