The Patents Office is an independent statutory office under the control of the Controller of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks. Its objective is "to provide an efficient and effective system of industrial property protection that will encourage technological progress and promote enterprise through the implementation by the Office of the relevant legislation".
This is achieved through the protection of industrial property rights in the fields of patents, trade marks and designs, and the dissemination of relevant information in conjunction with each of these activities. The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment commissioned Arekibo Communications in June 2005 to redesign and upgrade the Patents Office website.
Why did the Patents Office Choose Arekibo?
This was quite a complex project in that in addition to disseminating a large amount of information to a wide and geographically disperse audience, the Patent Office website also provides searchable access to registers of patents, trademarks and designs, and to databases maintained by the Office. The site also provides searchable access to relevant publications, including an Official Journal, which is published fortnightly.
End Results
"The Department, in consultation with the Patent Office, selected Arekibo for this project on the basis of its impressive track record in delivering quality public sector websites. The new website, without doubt, represents a considerable improvement in terms of design, navigation and ease of content management. In my view, it not only offers our audience an enhanced user experience in terms of improved visual appearance, but also in terms of usability by achieving compliance with the very highest web accessibility standards (WC3 – AAA). Overall, I have found Arekibo to be a very professional company who are both flexible and approachable in the pursuit of innovative online solutions."
