Googles response to Coronavirus Covid-19

With the recent Covid-19 virus outbreak, businesses globally and in Ireland are challenged on their ability to maintain business as usual, while working from home. Google among many others has taken proactive approach in supporting businesses affected by Coronavirus.

Google My Business

Google My Business posted a new document in their help centre asking businesses affected by Covid-19 to update their profile to provide accurate information.

What should I update?

If your business is affected, you should update your business hours if they have changed and if you are closing early or closing for a number of weeks. In order to keep the customer fully informed, Google suggest updating your business description to share any information about extra precautions you are taking and perhaps create posts sharing updates regularly if you’re providing additional services, if the company is working from home or if there are a variety of resources available.

Along with that, ensure that your phone number is correct so that customers can reach you before arriving at your premises.

G-Suite for businesses and schools

Google Cloud released a product news story last week in response to many employees, schools and universities working remotely with hundreds of thousands of students using Hangouts and Google Classroom to continue their education remotely.

In response to this, Google will begin rolling out free access to the advanced video-conferencing capabilities to all G Suite and G Suite for Education customers globally to allow for larger meetings, live streaming for up to 100,000 viewers and the ability to record meetings and save them to Google Drive.

These features are typically only available in the Enterprise edition but will be available to all customers at no additional cost until July 1st, 2020.
