Arekibo increase exercise goal for Irish Cancer Society
Last year we shared a working from home survey internally to ask our Arekibians how we could improve their experiences, ensuring we’re all staying connected. 70% of respondents suggested they would like some type of fitness challenge, so we listened!
The original idea was that for the month of April, 12 Arekibians will walk/run or cycle 1,000km over the 30 days. However, the team hit 50% of that goal within 4 days so we decided to increase our goal to 1,500km.
One of Arekibo's values is the importance of giving back to the community. For Christmas 2020, instead of sending our usual bottles or wine or hampers we used the money to donate to two charities - LauraLynn and 3TS. Which is why it was decided by the team that by walking we would also like to fundraise the money for the charity of choice.
We voted and together we selected the Irish Cancer Society. The Irish Cancer Society is the national charity in the Republic of Ireland dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem and improving the lives of those who have cancer. You can learn more about it here.
The team have been tracking their exercise using Strava, which we have found has kept us connected as you can see what your colleagues are doing, like their progress and even comment if we’re really impressed with their activity.
