Where to start: Your training roadmap
Training works best when it’s shaped around your team’s roles. Editors need depth on pages, templates, and the content editor; your IT team needs more on deployments, security, roles, and permissions. We match each session to the people in the room. Here’s the path we typically follow, from first login to full independence.
Start with the basics
Anyone who uses your Sitefinity CMS should understand how it works at a basic level. We introduce Single Sign-On (if used), the dashboard, the interface, and the main sections, pages, content and content types, and administration (user roles and permissions). We’re also clear on what each person should and shouldn’t change: users shouldn’t amend permissions or roles without administrator approval.
Pages, templates & widgets
Next we go a level deeper. Your team learns how to create and set up a page, changing the title, updating SEO, and so on, then how page templates and layouts keep a consistent look and feel across the site (for example, the Standard Content template and when to use it). We then cover widgets, the building blocks of every page: how to drag and drop content blocks, forms, images, and lists, and why some widgets only belong in certain templates.
Content creation & management
Once the team understands how pages, templates, and widgets fit together, we drill into the WYSIWYG editor, the component they’ll use most. We show how to add text, images, video, and links, format content, add headings, and create clean bullet and numbered lists. We include a basic grounding in HTML and the code view, and one golden rule: only paste clean content, never copied straight from Word.
SEO, tags & categories
Ignoring SEO is a costly mistake. We train your team to use Sitefinity’s SEO tools properly, from metadata management to sitemaps, so your pages rank higher and drive more organic traffic. We also cover content classification: how tags and categories keep your content organised and easy to find.
Content management & workflows
Workflows are the structured processes that move content through review, approval, and publishing before it goes live, keeping everything aligned with your standards and policies. We show how workflows are set up and configured for content approval, how to manage content versions and rollbacks, and how to use Sitefinity’s content personalisation features.
Troubleshooting & support
Many teams get stuck simply because they don’t know where to start. We train your team on common issues, publishing errors, widgets placed on the wrong page, broken links, and media uploads, and how to resolve them. We also show them how to reach Sitefinity’s support resources, from online documentation to community forums, so they can handle the more complex problems independently.

How to jump start your Sitefinity experience

Progress Sitefinity is a content management and marketing analytics platform designed to create a great customer experience. Many businesses view Sitefinity DXP as a natural next step beyond an open-source solution like WordPress, ensuring their digital presence is both scalable and secure.
Today, we are talking to one of our Project Managers, Hilary, to learn more about how easy it is to learn the Sitefinity content management system and what her favourite features of the CMS are.
How easy is it to learn Sitefinity as a PM?
Overall, I found it quite easy to learn Sitefinity. I was the Project Manager for a client who was using Sitefinity, so I needed to familiarise myself with the CMS quickly. I can really say I learned it by doing.
First, I gained access to a pre-production site (it was too risky to access the live website) and played around with the UI. I then created a new page to see how to add custom features. Having previous experience with other CMS’ like WordPress and Kentico I found Sitefinity seamless and easy to get the hang of! I really like the Sitefinity interface and found it easy to navigate around the backend. The navigation on how to add elements, such as images, or how to add a dynamic banner was very logical.
What was helpful for you in learning how to use the technology?
For me, I found it very helpful to take my time creating and getting used to Sitefinity. It took me a while to become comfortable using Sitefinity, but initially I blocked two hours into my calendar and went to look at how to upload images, change people’s user access and how to create spotlights on my own test content page. I also looked at the Sitefinity tutorials to understand the various user roles.
I also looked at training manuals for other Arekibo clients who use Sitefinity, the training manuals really helped me to learn how to do the basics of Sitefinity and how the standard content page structure differs from a product overview page. Adding images and videos is slightly different so the training manuals were helpful to learn how to add images to spotlights.
Lastly, when I had any questions relating to Sitefinity, I asked one of my colleagues to show me how to perform certain tasks or answer any questions I had. I asked questions like how to add the custom layouts to a page before adding any custom spotlights or dynamic banners and how to link CTA buttons to other internal pages.
From start to finish, I would say it took me approximately two months to become comfortable with Sitefinity as a CMS to the point where I could answer any questions which the clients asked about.
Why do you like working with Sitefinity?
- Drag and Drop layout: I liked the Drag and Drop layout; it was really easy to use and allowed every page to have different, interesting layouts depending on the designed template. On the Preview page, you can instantly see how the widgets look to end users.
- Digital Asset Management: In Sitefinity, I really like the fact that a user can add and store images, graphics and videos which are then easy to find when you want to add them to a dynamic banner.
- Out-of-the-box features: having so many out-of-the-box features that our development team can build is great and one of Sitefinity’s best features, as it allows extensive personalisation and customisation for clients. From a client perspective, it also means that their requirements for their new website can be easily met. I had one client who, at the very last minute, wanted a unique search engine for their Help Centre. By using Sitefinity as a CMS, our developers built a new search engine that met the customer's needs.
- Messaging: many of our Sitefinity clients need urgent messages about weather or COVID alerts. Using the CMS, developers can easily create these alerts, which the client can update with messages and turn on or off at the top of the page.
