Introduction
The Medical Council is the regulator of doctors in Ireland and maintains the Register of Medical Practitioners - the register of all doctors who can practise medicine in Ireland. The Medical Council also sets the standards for medical education and training in Ireland.
We partnered with the Medical Council of Ireland to reimagine its digital platform, with responsive design, usability, and content clarity at its core. With responsibilities spanning professional registration, complaints, education standards, and public engagement, the Council's website needed to serve the needs of doctors, patients, students, and policymakers.
Architected for scalability

We commenced with a detailed stakeholder engagement to determine needs and expectations. A content and UX audit followed, enabling us to simplify the existing structure and develop an intuitive information architecture that reflects the various needs of their audiences and the organisation's expectations.
Stakeholder workshops, audience analysis and analytics insights enabled our teams to:
- Design a streamlined navigation model tailored to user needs.
- Structure a global navigation to underpin the long-term growth of the website and future services and features.
- Define a content architecture that supports both public users, professionals, and staff in accessing the right content or service at the right time. The content and journeys were all tailored to the site's most frequent tasks (e.g., doctor search, complaint submission).
Designed for all

Our UX and design team created an elegant interface to deliver an accessible and seamless experience across devices.
The design process also created a scalable solution to manage content across the website, ensuring that the content team can easily manage and grow the website. The results have delivered a flexible design solution that has scaled and supported the Council's long-term needs.
Supporting students
The Medical Council promotes high standards in medical education and training, from a student's first day in medical school through to their retirement from medical practice. We have created a dedicated area of the website for students, ranging from those learning about a career in medicine to those who have already begun their medical careers.
The Medical Council now provides information about pathways through the profession and the options available as they progress. The Education hub was nominated for a Golden Spider award in 2014 in the Education category.
Empowering the team
The Medical Council now has a trusted digital platform that reflects its commitment to supporting its primary audiences.
It offers a streamlined experience for everyone, supporting transparency and is architected to adapt to their future needs.
